Introductions from the Editor
Zero means Truth in the rethinking of aesthetics flowing forth from California.
0 false / 1 true was the old paradigm in technology. The undercurrent was distrust. Default was negative until proven otherwise.
That is not what we want.
0 as true is an aspiration for a community where you can almost always have faith in your fellow man around you. Utopian? We believe in a paradigm where trust is to be expected.
Time will tell if this vibe is viable -- if it is right.
Our role at the California Virtue is to document the best, most interesting, and most relevant of our new era's art.
There is no "global community" -- and yet there is, and their vapid, predictable art fills every global city's major galleries and museums. Globalist aesthetics are of no interest to us. Art that is of everywhere is of nowhere.
California is our geographic scope. Timeframe is the now.
Our mission is to write about modern art made in California, California artists, and the creative scene that inspires us.
Why now? We all live in the moment. The Lockdowns of 2020-22 were the archetypical mother of all dividing lines. Not since the atom was split in FDR's 1940s has there been such a clear divide between the world that was and the era that will be.
Why California? This is the land where the future comes first. California is the front line of whatever new world order we are living in. More so than Boston, Chicago, D.C., or New York. Here we have both the center of modern industry, the cultural forges driving the conversation, and a one-party political system in which the old era's purest vision of itself is manifested.
Purity is good.
Aesthetic accelerationism.
Towards wherever we are going: We will get there first.
